About Skin

The idea behind Skin was born around 2002 when Yoshiki and Gackt wanted to create music together. In 2006 Yoshiki announced he would form a band with Gackt at Otakon (an anime convention in the USA). Later that year Sugizo was added as a 3rd member, with Miyavi being announced as the 4th member in May 2007 at the first Jrock Revolution festival.

Just a month later, in June 2007 the band gave its debut performance at the Anime Expo in Long Beach. Along with them on stage were Ju-ken, the bassist of Gackt’s band GacktJob. Following songs were presented “Gei-sha”, “Killing You Softly”, “Beneath The Skin” and “Violets”. The later one being a beautiful instrumental piece with Yoshiki and Gackt on piano, Sugizo on violin and Miyavi who played a traditional Japanese music instrument called shamisen.

Skin planned to release an album, unfortunately this idea did not materialize. Besides the wishes of all members to continue with this project, due to each of them having an extremely tight schedule it’s impossible for them all to get together at the same time, so the project – for now – has been put on hold.

Miyavi is best known for his extravagant style and guitar skills. Born on September 1981 in Japan, he bought his first guitar at 15 and began writing music after an injury left him unable to play soccer.

From 1992 to 2002 he was the guitarist for the band Dué le Quartz. Following the break up of the band he changed his name from Miyabi to Miyavi. This wasn’t the only thing to change, his different style in music caused many of his former band fans to disperse, but attracted an even bigger new audience.

Releasing six solo albums so far, he is on his best way to pursue an international career (doing world tours) and has fans all around the world.
